Representative Assembly

The Council for Exceptional Children’s Representative Assembly (RA) is the Council’s membership advisory body to the Board of Directors. The RA includes two representatives from each state/provincial unit, division, and the student/early career membership. It provides input to the board on issues related to the field and profession, strategic direction, policy initiatives, and other similar issues. The RA meets once a year at the CEC Convention and can conducts business online throughout the year.

Recent small group discussions at the meeting include:

  • Using State of the Profession survey response information to determine ways for CEC to partner with general education professionals to provide support and resources to help improve outcomes for individuals with disabilities and/or giftedness across general education settings. (2025)
  • Input on the design of the State of the Profession Survey (“SOTP”). (2024)
  • Improving the quality of the convention program and experience. (2023)
  • Operationalizing CEC’s 2022-2026 Strategic Plan. (2022)
